About Marshall Mountain

Marshall Mountain Park is a 480-acre mountain adventure park located in western Montana between the communities of East Missoula and Bonner-West Riverside, just east of Missoula, and near the confluence of the Clark Fork and Blackfoot Rivers.

Following years of public input and planning,  Missoula County purchased Marshall Mountain Park in 2024 and now manages the park. Residents, local governments and community organizations collaborated to ensure this historic recreation area will forever remain open to public use. The focus is now on transitioning this iconic local ski hill into an accessible, inviting outdoor space for Missoula County residents and visitors.

Marshall Mountain is an epicenter for people powered recreation. The mountain is living up to its goal of being a high-use, all-season, all-access, public outdoor recreation and education area. There are 12.6 miles of multi-use, purpose-built, and single-track trails, with 3 new trails in progress over the past year. Generations of Missoulians learned to ski at Marshall Mountain. The legacy continues today as Marshall continues to be a winter wonderland, with backcountry skiing and snowboarding available when the snow pack allows.

Marshall Mountain Park benefits our community by:

  • Continuing the legacy of youth education at Marshall Mountain.
  • Inclusive recreation – to design and build an outdoor recreation space for all Missoulians.
  • Summer and out-of-school programming – to meet the high demand for summer outdoor recreation programming in our community.
  • Community events – the opportunity to build a much-needed dedicated public space to host large outdoor recreational, educational and commercial events.
  • Habitat protection – opportunities abound for targeted habitat restoration along with teaching responsible recreational principles.
  • Growing population – to help address increasing pressure on public lands by providing an intentionally designed and dedicated space for high-use outdoor recreation opportunities.

Please note that due to extremely limited infrastructure (no indoor spaces or running water), private events like weddings would be limited to very basic and analog accommodations. Due to public ownership of the park, it is not entirely possible to close the area to non-attendees.
